Nowhere in the Caribbean is the passion for great food more apparent than along the Northern coast of Colombia, a reality well evidenced by Sabor Barranquilla, a massive annual food fair organized by the Colombian Red Cross with the support of Fenalco, Corferias, the local and state governments, and many of the most important organizations and companies of the region.

Over 12,000 visitors..

This year’s twelfth edition of Sabor Barranquilla is going to run from August 22nd to 25th and will probably be the largest yet, filling the Puerta de Oro Conference Center from end to end, a veritable smorghasbord of food and food-related services and products, and attracting an estimated 12,000 to 15,000 visitors.

A feast for the senses..

The moment you pass within the threshold of the entrance, the smells descend upon you, wafts of everything delicious, from spicy chorizo and searing, juicy steaks to steaming seafood paella and colourful desserts. It’s a feast for the senses, all at once overpowering your intent at moderation, driving you to pull out your wallet and gorge.

A stage for the best of the best..

Moreover, while it was originally intended as a showcase of the flavors of the city, Sabor Barranquilla has become much more. Indeed, with more than 150 industry companies displaying their wares and a further 50 or so restaurants serving up fresh, delicious food, the event has morphed into a stage for the best of the best of Atlántico and afield.

International guest chefs..

Attending the needs of hungry customers, local restaurants, food service organizations and industry suppliers alike, last year’s event was a resounding success. Likewise, it was a grand festival of food that stretched for four full days, complete with cooking displays by local, national and international guest chefs from as far away as Spain and Italy. It featured live, traditional music, and numerous opportunities for sampling the flavors and cuisine of the land.

Traditional handicrafts..

Last year’s event also featured a pavilion of local artisans from across the region who were on-hand to demonstrate and talk about their handicrafts. They were offering everything from bowls and tableware to lamps, bags, rugs and clothing.

Barriga llena..

With “barriga llena, corazon contento” (a local expression that means we’re full and happy), we’re super glad we went and we’re looking forward to seeing how Sabor Barranquilla 2019 will eclipse last year’s show.

  1. I’ve been to the past six Sabor events and each one has been better than the last. It’s a great way to spend the day.. walking around and talking with people from the various businesses, sampling their products and ultimately enjoying a delicious lunch.
